Reusable Nappies and Childcare
Share
Let's talk about using cloth nappies when your little one goes to nursery or a childminder etc. It can feel daunting when you've only just got your head around cloth nappies yourself, to try to explain to someone who may be unfamiliar with them, but generally, most child care providers are happy to use cloth nappies these days.
We would always recommend sending the same style and brand of nappy to your childcare provider at each session, as this keeps it as simple as possible for them. It is usually easier to send an all-in-one or pocket nappy style as these are the most similar to a disposable nappy in their use and fit. If a nursery or child minder is unfamiliar with cloth nappies, it can be helpful to send a photo of the fit of your nappies on your little one.
Common Questions
How many nappies should I send?
We would recommend that you send how ever many nappies your child would normally use in that time plus 1 or 2. This means that the provider will be covered if your little one needs an additional change or has a bonus poo!
How will they store the clean or dirty nappies?
A common solution is to send the clean nappies in a nappy pod and then provide a wet bag for the dirty nappies. This means they are kept separate and are unlikely to get muddled throughout the day! The zip-up wet bag is waterproof and will keep any smells from escaping!
What will they do with the poo?
Some providers will be happy to pop the poo in the toilet or in a nappy sack whereas others would rather package the whole nappy up for you to sort when you get home. The best way is to discuss this in advance with your childcare provider. They all differ on what facilities they have access to and what will be easiest for them when managing a variety of children.
